Terms and Conditions

Muriwai Beach Horse Treks are happy to ride in all weathers, we are however mindful that not everybody likes riding in torrential rain! Muriwai is a micro climate and if you’re unsure of the conditions we encourage you to call as often the sun is shining when it’s miserable elsewhere.

1.What happens if it is raining or you need to reschedule for any another reason?

We do ride in all weather (except in cases where we cannot ride due to safety reasons we will call you to reschedule your trek and this is at our discretion only). Come and experience the “Wild West Coast”.

Rescheduling due to a bad weather forecast or any other reason: The weather at Muriwai Beach is very changeable and the weather forecast quite unreliable. However, if you are unsure please call 48 hours in advance to reschedule your horse trek. We are happy to postpone and transfer your deposit as required

2. When do I need to be there?

Please make sure you arrive AT LEAST 45 minutes earlier then your trek is due to depart, for example if you are booked in in the 10am ride please arrive at 9:15am latest. We do not offer refunds or reschedule’s for late shows or no shows – absolutely no exceptions, we deal with this situation often and we do not appreciate the difficult conversation we then have to have with you when you have arrive even only 5 mins late as we will, and have to by our safety policy have to turn you away with no refund or reschedule as you have missed key riding information. Please understand that we will in no way jeopradise our policies, licences, and the safety of you or anyone else because you have not allowed enough time to travel to us or are late for any reason.

3. What do I need to wear?

Please make sure you are also dressed appropriately, we do not have spare clothes for you. We suggest long pants, and you MUST wear closed in shoes, if you turn up in heels or open toe shoes or non appropriate footwear or clothing you will not be able to ride and we cannot refund you, we DO NOT have shoes or boots for you to wear. Closed in flat sneaker type shoes are what you need to be wearing. you can also bring a light weight rain jacket if you think there might be showers.

4. What happens if you need to cancel?

We do have a 72 hour cancellation policy. This refund only applies if the client cancels at least 72 hours before their horse trek. A cancellation fee of $10 will be deducted from the client’s refund (per horse booked). This refund only applies if the client cancels at least 72 hours before their horse trek.

5. What happens if you don’t turn up for your horse ride?

As it is a lot of work to get the horses transported to the beach and ready for your trek (it takes 3 hours before the first ride AND 3 hours after the last ride), we can’t offer a refund for “no shows”. We often have wait lists for our treks especially at weekends and we can’t reassign your horse to another person if you do not show up.

6. Can we ride with two people on a horse?

No, this is not a safe way to ride our horses nor does our equipment allow for “doubling on horse back”. It’s also not very comfortable for our horses and would exceed our weight limit in most cases.

7. Can my child ride with me on the same horse?

No, this is not a safe way to ride our horses nor does our equipment allow for “doubling on horse back”. Each person will be allocated their own horse

8. Can my baby ride with me or be strapped on to the same horse?

No, this is not a safe way to ride our horses nor does our equipment allow for “doubling on horse back”. We also have a age limit of 5 years old

9. Can my 3 year old ride a horse?

No sorry we have an age limit of 5 years old.

10. I’m over 95kg, can I still ride?

No sorry, our weight limit is 95kg, while most horses can easily carry a rider and saddle, they do have their limits just like humans.

Research shows that horses who work as hard and as often as our horses do should only carry a maximum of 15% of their body weight. For example a horse that weights 600kg can only take up to 90 kgs. Please understand that our horses health, happiness and well being is a high priority for us and we do not like to stretch our horses to their maximum limits constantly

If you are in doubt, please be on the side of overestimation when providing your weight details at the time of your booking. If upon arrival any riders are of questionable weight stated, we have a scale on-site and they will be asked to stand on the scales. If a rider is too large for the horse reserved they will not be able to ride and no refund or reschedule will be given.

To avoid possible embarrassment please be honest and call us prior if you are unsure

11. What if I decide to back out of my ride?

We want you to feel safe and confident and our friendly knowledgable staff will help you along the way to ensure you are safe, however horse riding isn’t for everyone and if you feel you cannot go ahead we will respect your wishes. However we cannot offer to refund you as per our cancellation notice time, we cannot resell your seat nor be left out of pocket when we have already spent the time reserving your horse and preparing it for your ride.

12. What happens if you don’t turn up for your horse ride?

If you can’t make your ride for whatever reason please let us know and we are happy to work out another suitable time for you.

All gift vouchers are valid for 6 months from date of purchase and are non-refundable.
