Experienced Riders

Whatever it is you’re searching for, we can give you an experience you won’t forget.

Here at MBHT we pride ourselves on pairing our customers with suitable treks catered to the rider’s individual skill level as well as a trusty steed matched to the rider. All our more experienced treks are private rides, therefore we can cater to the rider and ensure everyone has a safe and fun experience.

We have two experienced trails available:

*Please note that our standard treks are walking-only treks, if you are an experienced rider looking for a more advanced trail head over to our  “Experienced Horse Treks” page.

Intermediate Trek

2 hours $250pp

Our Intermediate Trek is two hours long where you will discover the wild west coast on horseback, you will trail up the velvet black sands of Muriwai beach and through sand dunes. You’ll stop in water to let your horses have a drink and splash, before making your way up through scrubland, tree tunnels and the picturesque Woodhill Forest.

This trek provides lots of trotting opportunities and a few opportunities to canter. The opportunity to ride faster is always at our guide’s discretion. There is also lots of walking on the trek where you can appreciate the varied scenery and enjoy getting back to nature and taking some photos if you wish.

This trek is only available to people with intermediate horse riding experience and who can confidently and correctly trot and canter a horse. This is a great trek for people that have taken horse riding lessons, returning to riding and wanting to build confidence, trekked a lot beforehand or owned their own horses and want something a little more challenging and fun but also relaxed and low key.

To book either of these treks please fill in the contact information form under the contact us page or email us on staff@mbht.co.nz, please note we will contact you as we must screen all riders first before the ride is confirmed.

(Trek may not available for booking during the peak of summer, contact us for more information)

Experienced Trek

2 hours $300pp

Our Experienced Trek is two hours long where you will discover the wild west coast on horseback galloping, cantering, trotting and walking up the open velvet black sands of Muriwai Beach.

You’ll trail through sand dunes towards the end of the trek and stop in waterholes and let your horses have a drink and splash, then make your way up through scrubland, tree tunnels and the picturesque Woodhill Forest to cool down your steeds after this fast-paced ride.

It’s a great trek for very skilled and confident people that have taken horse riding lessons, competed to high levels of endurance, CTR, show jumping, trekked a lot, trained or ridden race horses or owned their own horses and want something fast, fun, challenging and breathtaking. This trek is not for the faint hearted and requires a very high level of confidence.

This trek is only available to people who are VERY experienced in riding horses and who can confidently and correctly trot, canter and gallop a horse. Please do not be offended if we ask for proof of experiance or decline a booking request if we feel any rider does not meet the required skill needed.

We often require riders to have completed an intermediate trail with us previously before accepting a booking for our advanced ride. Again, please do not be offended, we want riders to enjoy their experiance with us and feel safe, this ride is extreme and an exhilarating experiance that require riders to be riding fit, confident and highly skilled.

Our Experienced Trek provides ample opportunities to trot, canter and gallop, however no riders will be expected to trot or canter if they are not feeling confidant to do so nor will they be offered the opportunity to ride faster if their skill level is not sufficient to do so safely, all riding its at our guide’s discretion. Please be honest about your skill level.

To book either of these treks please fill in the contact information form under the contact us page or email us on staff@mbht.co.nz, please note we will contact you as we must screen all riders first before the ride is confirmed.

(Trek is not available for booking during the peak of summer, contact us for more information)
